Shielded Phlebotomy Service shortlisted for HSJ (Health Service Journal) Value Award

Back in December, we reported that following narrowly missing shortlisting for the 2020 HSJ Awards, the Shielded (Clinically Extremely Vulnerable) Service in Coventry and Warwickshire, including the CWPS Shielded Phlebotomy service was subsequently submitted for the HSJ Value Award.

I am thrilled and proud to announce that we have been shortlisted for an award, and a presentation on why our submission should win in the ‘Value award of the year’ category, was delivered to the HSJ shortlisting panel on Tuesday 13th April. Feedback from the presentation was very positive, and questions focused on what we have learnt from the project, and might do differently as a result.

Judges said that they had received an incredibly high number of good quality applications in this category, so us being shortlisted was already a significant achievement. Due to Covid, the awards ceremony has been pushed back to September, but we are keeping everything crossed for then.

Our novel Shielding Service, including the pop-up phlebotomy clinics has been recognised nationally as innovative, and others have followed our lead and used the pop-up clinic model to support clinically extremely vulnerable patient care during the pandemic. Well done again to the CWPS Phlebotomy Team for all their hard work in setting up and continuing to deliver this amazing service, and we are proud of the recognition it has rightfully received.
